Bill walks down the street and, glancing down an alley, sees his old friend Dave coming out a back door. "Dave? Is that you? It is!" Bill smiles and waves, moving down the alley towards his friend.
Dave turns as his friend calls out, and his eyes widen for a second. He makes a minimal shooing gesture towards the open door next to him, without taking his eyes off his friend on the street ahead of him. "Bill," says Dave pasting a smile on his face. "This is a pleasant surprise." Dave scurries towards the street waving at his friend. "Stay there I'll come to you."

What Hides Behind a Smile?

A curve of the lips, a flash
of sparkling, even teeth,
can disguise all the pain in a heart.
The window to a soul is the eyes,
but a smile is so much easier to understand.
It is much harder to look for the mind
behind the smile. It is only in the mind
that the truth can be found. That momentary flash,
whirling colors and feelings, seen but beyond my understanding,
who am I to judge? A friendly baring of teeth,
a warning for one who looks, but those eyes
flare, like mirrors reflecting Truths' heart.

Cursed be thou upon emerald hue
deflowering the virgin essence,
corrupting Eden. This I must construe
as war.
Thy spiteful blazing putrescence
poisons strenuously cultivated
tranquility. Mine gnarled fingers clench,
rage suffused thews bulge, thou art slotted
for midden.
Thy trunk shall be wrenched
from mine domain, thy creeping limbs racked
from thy root. I shall relish thy excision
from mine vista. This handle mine hands crack,
time to remove thy blight from 'pon my vision.
No more thy tawny head to show,
For 'tis written suffer not a weed to grow
